My Health and Safety career so far has largely been in construction, engineering and infrastructure – all high-risk industry sectors and very often these have spanned many sites and international boundaries.  

Throughout this time, I’ve implemented change that has been a significant challenge and required influence on the behaviours and attitudes of people. 

I’ve learnt that some of the most important skills required for this line of work are both influencing and interpersonal skills. You’ve got to listen with care, evaluate, negotiate and consult to inspire and motivate people to take ownership and champion change. That’s so important if you want to achieve performance improvement. 

When I’m not working, I like getting out into nature – cycling, hiking and exploring new places in my caravan.
